Salesloft + HubSpot Integration: What Actually Syncs (and What to Watch For)

If you're running HubSpot as your CRM and SalesLoft as your sales engagement platform, the integration between them is doing more work than most teams realize, and it's also easier to misconfigure than people expect.

THE BASIC SYNC: COMPANIES AND CONTACTS

SalesLoft and HubSpot support two-way synchronization for company and contact records. Standard fields come across out of the box, and you can map custom fields on top of that. Once a person exists as a contact in HubSpot, they can be pulled into SalesLoft for outreach.

ACTIVITIES PUSH AUTOMATICALLY, WITH ONE CATCH

On the execution side, activities you log in SalesLoft push into HubSpot without any field mapping required. That part is simple. The catch is calls: if you're logging call dispositions in SalesLoft, those values have to match HubSpot's call disposition values exactly. If they don't line up one to one, the sync throws an error instead of recording the activity.

OPPORTUNITIES ARE ONE-WAY, AND THAT TRIPS PEOPLE UP

Here's the piece that catches a lot of teams off guard. Opportunities sync one-way from HubSpot into SalesLoft, and they're view-only once they land there. You can see them, but SalesLoft has no deals functionality behind them. If you're used to a Salesforce-style setup where the sales engagement tool and the CRM share full deal management, this isn't that. HubSpot stays in charge of pipeline.

WHAT A GOOD IMPLEMENTATION LOOKS LIKE

A few things are worth setting up deliberately rather than leaving to default behavior. Make sure field updates are genuinely bidirectional, so changes made in SalesLoft flow back into HubSpot and vice versa, keeping HubSpot as the actual source of truth. Set automation rules to align ownership, so a record owned by a rep in HubSpot is owned by that same rep in SalesLoft, since mismatched ownership is a quiet source of missed follow-up. Automate inbound routing so records flow from HubSpot into SalesLoft without someone doing it by hand (our guide to HubSpot Lead Routing covers the routing logic this depends on). And install both the SalesLoft and HubSpot browser extensions so reps can add new contacts the moment they're introduced to someone, rather than losing that person because they weren't already in the system.

HOW TO KNOW IF IT'S ACTUALLY WORKING

Once you're live, two places tell you if the integration is healthy. Activity sync errors show up per rep and in an admin rollup, and that's where you'll catch mismatched call dispositions before they pile up. CRM sync errors, under CRM sync settings, catch failed field updates, like a name change that didn't propagate or a record that failed to link correctly.

THE MENTAL MODEL THAT KEEPS THIS SIMPLE

HubSpot is your system of record. That's where your pipeline lives, where marketing lives, and where the full history of a contact or account sits. SalesLoft is your system of execution, sitting on top of HubSpot so reps can send email, make calls, and run plays quickly. Everything executed in SalesLoft should show up in HubSpot as a historical activity record. If you keep that division clear, most of the configuration decisions above become obvious.

None of this replaces having your HubSpot CRM built correctly first. The integration only reflects what's underneath it.
